Just do it, don't think about it.

Perhaps it might be useful to talk to a school counselor. Of course, if you don't study, then you might be more likely to perform less well than you'd like.

In my experience... You just have to keep trying. It hurts, it's hard, and you'll feel like a failure. But you'll survive, realize it wasn't so bad, and try again. You have to just keep pushing yourself. I also think having a therapist to back you up helps.

I'm sorry I don't have better advice. I've been struggling with this for almost a decade... But the people closest to me, tell me I'm getting better and that I'm slowly reaching my goal of getting my bachelor's degree. I'm just taking longer, and a different route, than most students. But that's okay. Because I"m not most students. I'm me, and I have to do what is right for me. And that is to keep trying, even though, in my eyes, I keep failing. Because one day, I will succeed.

I want to study and i'm 34 going on 35. I feel like it's too late and if I graduate from anything it will show up as late on my resume and in interviews and that I'm really not a graduate, I'm just a loser in life who decided to get a degree.

Hi Primal pain, Illegal toilet,
I have failed assignments on my courses, while unwell/to tired etc. yes it hurts like hell, I was able to Re-take many courses let you do this. Discuss with the school, college, Uni to see options available. Use tutor support, as often they will check that you are on the right lines with assignment. Libraries at uni's often offer tailored support to help with writing assignments etc. Some offer more help for those with learning difficulties.
Look at courses, some have a more practical element which will help grades.

It is not to late to get a degree, just explain you wanted to improve yourself. Which most employers really do appreciate. Not everyone has a degree, go for it if you really want to.
Good luck both of you.
Take care
Kate

Find something interesting in what you're studying, something that you are curious about and which isn't threatening. I have trouble reading textbooks and doing things as I'm "supposed" to but found ways around that, reading websites on the subject or a portion of it and just "enjoying" myself. Do that a lot and it gets the information in your head without your realizing it because you're having fun and then, if you have problems or writing and stuff that you must do, it's easier and you're more confident because you have a "background" and interest to build on.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Same with all kinds of stuff: learning, cleaning the house (my cross to bear lol) just take it easy and you will finally have something to show for it. And if we fail, at least we tried. =)

If you don't try, you'll never know. "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game."

For me, fear of failure is a great motivator. Especially since I am using school to try and escape an abusive relationship.

The only other thing I can say is study. Class time goes easier when you do.

What school is all about really is you "learn how to learn". Don't be afraid to study, you are just learning, just allow yourself to learn, the one who gains is you. You have a brain, just learn how to use it. Its a pretty amazing thing, the brain, it really "can" learn alot.

Don't fail before you've failed. That's a phrase I've coined. I may fail, and I can cope with that with the support if friends and family, but I will probably pass with doing the work. I will fail if I don't do the work. Sometimes it scares me to do the work and sometimes I procrastinate, but I do it anyway.

one of my favorite quotes is "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" I think it means that no matter what the outcome appears to be, you should at least give it your best effort. also in my experience, the longer I wait to study for a test, the more nervous I become.
