so just about 2 months ago, i have moved to a new school which is much bigger than my old school. this had given me symptoms similar to culture shock. ever since, i feel like everything i do is very unusual.

Here's something you guys can probably relate to; you know how when you're in a public space and you just start to wonder off in your imagination? well, that happens to me quite often and after im done imagining, i think to myself "oh boy, what was i doing in reality while i was in my imagination?"

that's one thing that frustrates me. another thing is that i tend to think weather or not i'm walking correctly or sitting correctly. This happens because again, i just moved to a new school with a bigger environment therefore culture shock is kicking in and making me feel strange. And since culture shock kicks in, i feel as if everything i do is unusual. this had put me in the worst depression pit i can be in. My stressful-ness is beating over my confidence, keeping me from socializing, which is..... bad.

While im in such situations, i try to make myself believe that everything is normal and im just an ordinary person. But its really hard to make myself believe that for whatever reason. I've thought about speaking to the school counselor but can someone tell me how to do so? i've never really done this, do i just go to the front office and say "may i speak with the counselor?" and then tell him/her everything?

I don't think i can live this way. I miss being who I am. And i really wanna feel like a normal person that fits in as much as the others. Please help.

Hi ~ Talking to a counselor is a great idea. Usually counselors have their OWN office -- I don't think you have to go to the front office at all. Just go to the counselor's office and see about making an appointment (if you have to). Perhaps the counselor will talk to you right then!

Just talk to the counselor like you did to us here -- just be open and honest. The counselor will certainly understand about "culture shock" and the fact that coming to a much bigger school is going to effect you! It would bother ANYBODY!! I'm sure you're not alone. Other kids have had this happen too.

So don't be afraid to talk to the counselor. It will be kept confidential. And let us know how you're doing, after you've had a few sessions with the counselor, okay? We're really like to know. God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you've been having such a hard time at the new school. I would also say start with contacting the counselor. He/She might have an e-mail address listed on your school website. Perhaps it's a bit easier to express yourself in writing then orally. Apart from that, have you considered joining a club? Keep writing here so we know you are ok. I hope you will settle into your new school soon. Take care

Thank you both for your help. First thing i did when i arrived at the school was go talk to the counselor and i didn't have much time to explain everything so i just told her "Ever since I've been to this school, i have had similar symptoms of cultures shock and it is frustrating." She had me write on a piece of paper what my name was and what the reason was and she said she'll talk to me later.

Although she misunderstood me because she thought I had no friends when in reality, I do, but school is still stressful for me.

And to answer your question, yes, I have joined the soccer team as a mid player . I've learned that exercising helps remove stress so I've been trying to exercise as much as possible and it seems to be slightly helpful.

Thank you guys for your help and I will tell you what happens next
