So, today was the second day of class (3 hr., 2/wk.) and I had to make myself go. Perhaps it's breaking the habit of thinking "I can learn this all at home anyway," rather than indifference to the subject. I am focusing better, i think due to the Concerta (a slow release stimulant,) but I am still getting a little distracted, though I am not sure whether going back to earlier notes is considered distraction. I think this course I may try the 1 hr. class to 2 hr. studying. I'll have to see how it goes. It would be a good idea to know the material from one class before the next. It's very early on in my course, but I already feel better about I am approaching it, than any course I've taken.

That's great!
![]() I had a heck of a time with Microbiology. I don't know if it was my professor, or if the subject was just too high tech for me to grasp, but I struggled. I finally got a "B" for the course. I hope that this class continues to go well for you! ![]()

If I could get a "B" in Microbiology, I would be so proud of myself! Math and science weren't my best subjects. I'd be bragging about a "B."

Understanding the material isn't as difficult as remembering it. I may understand the lecture, but be unable to reproduce the answer on a test. I was an A student in high school and have produced A marks at university, but when I get B-range I am okay with it. And when I get C-range, I remind myself it will still count towards my degree.

Hey, Tiger Lily! I did have to take Microbiology when I went back to school in my mid 30's. I felt I was on a fast train trying to keep up with the Science teacher at the college. He was brilliant, and a very good teacher, but I just don't have a science brain at all! I took copious notes, studied very hard. I found I had to write the stuff down again, READ it ALOUD to myself several times, and take the study sessions incrementally to give myself time to absorb it. I was very proud to have made it thru that course. I have confidence that you can succeed too!
![]() I'm sure I have a form of adult ADHD, so the study of such a subject was really hard for me! |

Glad to hear it is going better! This class has a lot of memorization and yes, more time outside of class. I found too writing it out as mentioned above seemed to help more than just reading and rereading it, especially making flash cards for all the organisms and tests. Also, there are flow charts online that group organisms by their tests to help ID them by their characteristics (Aerobic Gram positive or Gram negative: Cocci or Bacilli, Anaerobic Gram postive or negative: Bacilli, etc) that can be really helpful if you are more visual. If I might be able to help, please PM me. Again, keep up the good work and good luck!!

I'm not sure if it's the same kind of course, but I looved lab, and hated lecture. I can't memorize families, the cycle of the virus and bacteria, mRNA, tRNA, amino acids in order..
I was interested in solving the puzzle, finding out with bacteria using fire(bunsen burner!) and ice. I still remember Mucopolyssacharides and cryptoviridae tho. ![]() Stay ahead, just skim and familiarize yourself with all these new words and images. Talking to classmates and sharing notes wouldn't hurt |
