It's so frustrating. How do you get a handle on math? It just confuses me.

Math... Uck, luckily my college courses doesn't require anything too complicated math wise, but in school I got some tutoring to get my marks up, look into it, there's nothing wrong with help

Sure. Do you have like a problem to solve? You can pm me or write it here, and I'll get you started. I'm thinking like a = b + 3

Hi Poppy,

I had math issues too. Wish I could be of help.

Have you checked out Khan Academy's site? Their videos explain everything really well.

Another site that might help you is WolframAplha.

Good luck!

i have a really bad time when it comes to maths

1 +1, my tables and takeaway is all i can really do.. and for my age, that's actually really embarrasing- seeing as numbers are a big part of daily life.

I would see if I could get some sort of assessment of "where" I am in maths and see if I could work on the basics in the areas under where I've got problems. For example, I know I cannot do computer programming easily because of my lack of college algebra. If I still cared, I would take college algebra, etc.

I would also look at whatever maths I am struggling with and see how I "felt" about them. We can cause ourselves difficulties by thinking we can/cannot understand something. The term "inequalities" jumped out at me and I emotionally shied away, for example. It reminds me of seeing a bug and needing to deal with the bug but being afraid of it so not being able to deal with it effectively

inequalities are just like regular equations, you're just replacing the = with < or >

take 3+x>4 (or think of it like 3+x=4)
solve for x
so x>4-3 (x=4-3)
x>1 (x=1)

The equals signs are not "correct" but just a way of showing how to work the problems.

Check out purplemath . com They have awesome step by step instructions for everything. Also, mathway . com has a great tool for finding the answer to any problem you put in (you'll have to pay to see how it's done though)
Thanks for this!

Look at khanacademy too. They have a webpage and a free mobile app. I wouldn't be getting through calculus without it!

It's not hopeless! You just have to find the learning tool that works for you.

Geez, my blurry late night eyes thought this thread was "cannot get a handle on Meth"

Glad that your problem is less daunting than a meth addiction!
