Well, I don't know what a "mis major" is so I can't help you there.

As for programming, it honestly depends on how many software languages the course requires you to learn. Some languages are easier to learn than others. BBCode is pretty simple, but C++ isn't. Programming is basically about learning and writing long lines of computer languages into workable code that can then be applied to programs and applications. I'm not very well versed in the details, but both my brothers are.

My older brother went to a private 4 year college to learn, but he also took AP classes in high school, and some high school classes counted toward his college credits. He now programs tiny computer chips to do the tasks assigned to them. For example, his current job is designing chips to be workable in human pacemakers. It's a very niche job, but he enjoys the work.

My younger brother works as a network technician. He basically solves any issues a network might have and gets it back up and running as soon as possible. He works with a variety of clients in his position, and is certified in the use of several computer languages and some levels of coding.

So yeah, I hope I helped somewhat, and sorry if I'm not offering you information more pertinent to your question.

One might assume that the lower level coursework prepares you for it?

Management Information Systems Major Overview
The information economy has created the need for a new set of managerial skills and competencies focused on the appropriate use of information technology as a key enabler of business success. The Management Information Systems (MIS) major, which is housed in the Department of Business Analytics, Information Systems and Supply Chain, provides students with both business and technical knowledge to be effective in today's ever-changing economic environment, allowing them to move into positions in which they manage the design and development of systems-related solutions for companies.
The foundation of a MIS education is business with courses covering basic business processes and functions (e.g., accounting, finance, marketing); introduction to the processes for the design and analysis of information systems, databases and programming languages; and experience in using technology to create business solutions.
Career paths vary from business-focused to technical to training and support of information system users. Feedback from recruiters indicates that Florida State MIS majors have a desirable mix of business knowledge, knowledge of analysis, design and development-process necessary for the successful development of information systems and qualitative people skills such as working in teams and making presentations.

I'm currently doing marketing/MIS. MIS is about software and integration between different departments in a business. A large part of it is software implementation in various different companies and getting rid of their old legacy system so everything is up to date. Therefore MIS is really "IT Management". For example, how do you get people to change their behaviour when implementing a new software, what should be your "checklist" to make sure things will go according to plan during the implementation, is it a good plan and is the software safe and secure?, is the software user friendly?, etc.

In MIS (at least in my school) we never learned any programming or coding or anything like that. We just learned how to use different softwares such as SAP, ARIS, and SQL.

Some careers are software consultants, MIS analyst, etc.

Also no, it's not very hard. Most of it is theory so it's just memorization.

Personally I would love a job in MIS as it seems right up my alley. But as I'm checking on indeed.com they're looking for people with lots of experience that also know programming. I was never taught programming in MIS so I guess it's something I have to self learn. Also another drawback that I see (at least in my uni) is that we learn max 3 softwares whereas there are many many more softwares such as Oracle and Sage 500 etc. I have no experience with those and some jobs require you to know how to use a variety of softwares. So all in all, it may take some initiative to learn more than what you're taught in class but your mileage will vary. Could be that your business school is more comprehensive than mine so you wouldn't need to.
