It seems as though now it takes five years or so for students to finish undergraduate degrees. I am one of those students now and most students at my school are there five years and wondered if it was the same in many other places from what I heard.

Ehhh. It really depends on where you're coming from. I know I came in as a sophomore with all the AP credits and I would have finished in 4 years had the depression not kicked me into the dirt and rolled me off a cliff lol. I'm aiming for 5 years as well but most people I know are graduating in 4. Then again... most of my friends are crazy high achievers... so I can't really give an accurate assessment :P

I really think it depends on the uni etc. I know here a lot of people complete their degrees part-time or drop back due to workload/life issues and complete their degree over 5 years. I think it is becoming more common as time goes on.

I completed my degree in 4.5 due to taking a lesser class load due to depression. I think it really depends on the person!

I think most technical schools are 5 years now; engineering, architecture, etc. They have so many math and science courses that have labs. I guess it doesn't matter as much anymore though, many more people are working and taking classes than in my day (1960s and 70s :-)

In the degree program I was in for undergraduate, most people took AT LEAST 5 years to graduate, some of them 6+. I mean, I have my masters and there are some people from my class that haven't graduated yet.
There's about 100 or so people getting a degree in that department at any given time and the professors were excited about how big my graduating class was. There were 8 of us, if I remember correctly. But on the other hand, the school I'm doing my graduate work at, everyone graduates in 4 years—they make sure of that. |
