Basically, I've NEVER had trouble in school before this semester. I'm a junior in college (this is only my second year away from home though), and I've had a 4.0 throughout all of this time in both college (so far) and high school. I've never had trouble studying or staying focused in class or when doing my homework and I've always gotten everything done on time.
I've been dealing with some depression and other stuff lately, but I also dealt with that last year and the year before that and it had no affect on my grades or ability to focus and do my work. This year however, I'm having some serious difficulties. I'm getting C's in two of my three classes, and B's in the other. I know that's just normal for a lot of people, but this is awful for me, as I rarely have to study or put in effort for a B, and usually don't require much more than that to get an A. It's not that my classes are that much harder this semester, it's just that I'm finding myself completely unable to focus at all during them. I'm so out of it during the day that I feel like I'm just watching myself from above and I can't seem to hear what the professor is saying or take any useful notes. My notes for some classes consist of a countdown for when the class will be over. I also seem to keep missing the professors talk about quiz, homework, and test dates, and thus I get to class the next period and find that I either haven't done the assigned homework or didn't study for the quiz. Everyone else always seems to have remembered about it, so I guess it was mentioned in the class before. I just don't understand why I'm having so much trouble focusing and staying present all of the sudden. I was trying to do an online quiz/homework the other day for a class, and I kept having to reread the question because by the time I finished reading an answer (it was multiple choice) I'd completely forgotten what it was asking. I had to do this for every question many, many times and I still couldn't focus enough to remember. Since the quiz was timed I had to complete it then, so I ended up getting a 60.... That's one of the lowest grades I've ever gotten, and it's in a class I should be good at (based on the fact that it's the second part of the class I took last semester and did really well (my final grade was nearly 100)). I don't know what to do about this, but it's going to destroy me if I end up failing anything this semester due to this weird problem. And I can't get in to see the school counselor until next week (after I will have take two more tests in classes...) so I'm seriously at a loss here.... Sorry if this is the wrong place for it, I'm not sure where exactly to put it since it has to do with school, but also other issues. |

If you take medication, have you had any changes in medications in the last couple of months?

Can you look around and see if you share a couple of classes with another person? See if they would be open to becoming your study partner. I've got a lot of the same issues right now, just so hard to keep up. But this one guy and I have been doing our homework for two classes together. He's a huge help. I'm going to owe him the biggest favor ever.
It's not someone I really knew before, we shared a couple of classes together over the summer, but then I sat next to him in a class this semester and we just decided we'd help each other. I'm a senior right now. Be more than happy to chat with you about anything. Please feel free to pm me. Best of luck. |
