I have attended other colleges in pursuit of an associate degree, this current college wants documentation that prevented academic progress at the other colleges, explaining extenuating circumstances before they give any financial aid.
Where would I get that from 3 years ago and what is extenuating circumstances? I had and still do have health issues, a foreclosure, and was uprooted, moved, etc. Is that extenuating circumstances? What documents from who? They (financial aid) don't answer the phone or email, they are too "busy". I need to put this together yesterday. This is causing me extenuating anxiety! Is it "extenuating" to attend more than one college because college #1 didn't have the classes I needed at the time, the second college didn't recognize credits from the first, so I went to the third who does, is the simple explanation and so by their design I am attending (additional colleges). |

I would start with the simplest explanation. How were your grades before? If they were good, then point out that you have a history of being a good student. If they weren't good then you need to talk about why they weren't so good.
The foreclosure and being moved is a good reason (point out that you have stable accommodations now, if you can, so they think that the situation won't recur. I'd mention the health thing last (if at all) because people have more trouble with things that are less concrete and it makes things sound a bit messier. They might want doctor documentation etc. Evidence you have contacted disability support at the new place etc. |

hi creole
exactly what you explain here are the extenuating circumstances. i would just explain them and then if they want documentation they will explain exactly what they want. you may have to come up with the eviction papers which means contacting that landlord, but hopefully a well worded letter will do. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome ![]() |
