I can't afford to pay my student loans. I had a reasonable amount of loans from undergrad but then I went to grad school and got my MBA and I'm in debt up to my eyeballs.

I thought the extra education was going to be worth it but it certainly hasn't paid off in the year since I've been out of school. It makes me even more depressed to think of the outstanding balance.

I feel for you. For many the ROI doesn't seem to come close, myself included. Wish I could offer advice. Can only offer understanding.

I'm afraid this is going to happen to me. When I'm not in school (taking prerequisites) and thus in deferral, i can't afford my undergrad loans, I"m afraid it will only get worse out of grad school, but i haven't even gotten in yet. At least my career choice promises a lot of money (a lot to me anyway)

Like a lot of things the education system sucks in regards to student loans. School should be affordable for the majority of people and not like a lead weight around your neck.

Nobody (IMO) can afford their student loans, and since the government took them all over, it's even worse. That's why I have always told students to do ANYTHING BUT take out a "student loan". I've received lots of heat for making that stance, including from members here... but until one experiences it or helps someone who is ...you just cannot believe what a burden and imo should be illegal. (>>>honestly!)

Exactly what would you suggest as an alternative, JD?

Is that career employment, in writing?

I'm starting University in September and of the many things that scare the hell out of me about it, the loans are at the top of the list.

Im excited about having been accepted but at the same time I don't know if it's worth it. I cant apply for my loans until May. Im worried I too will be in debt forever. And what happens if you cant pay it back? If I drop out or even if I succeed but don't find employment. I'm looking to become a Therapist.

Post secondary education should be paid for by the Government like it is in a lot of parts of Europe. Or at the very least less expensive. The costs are ridiculous. Right now it's too much for me to even think about. Ill cross that bridge when I get to it I suppose.

I wish I had advice for the original post. But I'm just starting my education journey. Dont know where it will lead.

No that career is not in writing, but as soon as I become certified (i.e. have my doctorate and pass a test) I will have an in to jobs that pay around 60-80 grand a year, even for starters. That's a LOT to me. My parents always made like 35 grand.

People need to check job statistics and see how much expansion their will be in that field in the area they wish to live in. Not just what the "starting pay" is because what good is that if you can't get a job? Also, if you can't get a job except in a metro area, 60k goes fast.
