Hi, I'm an older student and just changed my major from a BSW to Psychology. I would like feedback on an awful clinical supervision experience I had for 2 semesters. I had an odd supervisor. Some of the things she said to me: "the reason I'm tough on you is I'm experiencing counter-transference with you" "do I remind you of someone you don't like, do I remind you of your mother?" "this is where I get to use my power over you, as your supervisor" "I'm an authority figure to you" "you're not ready for grad school, your present job does not prepare you for grad school" "you're very monotone and I can't see your passion" "I do this for free, ya know" "I know your not gonna miss me over break" "I know you think I'm a *****" "Want to look at something on my computer, are you going to feel ok sitting beside me?" "I can sense you're afraid of me, ya know" "Debate me" "Am I annoying you? Then say it, say it to me" "Maybe next semester, YOU can run the supervision meetings" "Do you even know what a social worker does?" And the coup de grace, after I sent her a copy of a paper highlighting abuse in my past, she responded with "Is this actually relevent"

Just needed to get that off my chest.

i have been supervising bsw students for years now. my site is a favorite placement for students because we provide such an awesome experience and i am the worlds best supervisor...lol....so my interns tell me. what you are saying is outrageous. this woman should not be supervising students. i am not going to pull out the nasw code of ethics and seach for the section of the responsibilities of supervisors but i am certain that somewhere in there you can find something where she is violating the ethical code. at the college i get my students from, each student has a field instructor that they report to about their internships. and then the person in charge of setting internships up. do you not have this type of system up that you could have reported this womans behavior to? even now, she needs to be removed as a supervisor she she cannot victimize other students. i am sorry that you had this awful experience. my bsw program pretty much sucked too as it triggered my ptsd which triggered my bipolar and i had a massive breakdown and was hospitalized twice. they misinterpreted my behavior and just saw me as a trouble maker and wouldnt allow me in grad school.i tried going the mft route last year but my anxiety was too bad and i had to drop out. i hope things go better for you.

Wtf is up with this lady? You technically work for her and she's analyzing you and putting you down to "help" you? Does she not know the damage that can cause? Sorry you went through that I've had bad rotations as Pharm before but none with psychoanalysis of me. Since then I've vowed to be better than my worst preceptors (supervisors). Hope you feel better NPS!

Side note reading more into it, she sounded fearful of you, like you were gonna take her job? Maybe it's just me?

Thanks I had mentioned to my school
several times I wanted a new MSW. My supervisor
herself repeatedly told me I could have a new one. It's
like she was daring me to do it. She definately isn't very
skillful. There are times we did supervision in coffee shops
And she was a bit better in public.
