School for me starts Tuesday the 8th of August.
I really cant do it anymore. They posted my roster online and just about all of my teachers are teachers who teach badly and are extremely strict with high standards. One of them constantly yells and she scares the **** out of me. I really cant take yelling, even if its not directed at me. Shes going to give me a panic attack. On top of that I'm going to be a junior in high school (which everyone so kindly tells me that's the worst year of high school) Also everyone only ever wants to talk to me about college anymore and I just wish they would shut up about it. Oh and I have less then 48 hours to finish my summer homework and I'm less then halfway finished. Sorry for complaining I just need to vent about this. Last year with all the stress I got really close to hurting myself |

1. Breathe. Just take a deep breath. 2. You immediate problem is your homework deadline, so focus on that. Look at what you have left to do. Complete the simple stuff first so that you can knock out as much of it as possible. You should have a pretty good ideas of which classes you like and which are going to be hard for you. Focus on getting the easy ones out of the way, that way if you don't get finished you can take the incomplete ones to the teachers and discuss the problems you had the most with understanding or completing the assignments. 3. You can't do anything about your teachers just yet. Make a plan to go see a school counselor to discuss you anxiety and maybe ask about changing classes from the teacher who yells. Speaking with the teachers you are comfortable speaking with about what you can do to try to meet their standards, or see if they can get you connected with a tutor who did well in their classes and understands how to meet their standards who can guide you. Just showing that you are trying will go a long way in getting their attention, and communicating with them will help them understand there is a problem that you need help with. 4. It's statistically unlikely that every single teacher you have is bad at their job, but not every teacher is equipped to deal with every person's learning style. Maybe you should get online sometime this semester and take some personality/learning style tests and find out how you learn best and adapt your method of approaching the assignments so that they work for you. Your education is yours, and while they can determine what you have to learn, you have the right to take an active role in how you get there. 5. I don't know why everyone tells you that the junior year is the hardest. Which year of school is most stressful is entirely subjective. You might find junior year quite easy. I certainly did. I would say it was a toss up between my freshman and senior year as the most trying. I came into the school late my 8th-grade year and my only friend to that point had moved away during the summer, so my freshman year I had to enter without any friends and no idea what to expect from the teachers. On the other hand, my senior year was stressful because of the forced social activities and the way the focus on college plans goes into hyperdrive becomes frankly exhausting. 6. If talking about colleges all the time makes you upset, just smile at whoever asks, say that you are still exploring your options. Then you can either change the subject or ask them if they have any recommendations. If you choose the latter, they'll get to say their piece about what they think you should do with your life, and you get information that you can choose whether to use or not to make your own decisions. You're not obligated to give an answer or take their advice, but sometimes hearing the ideas that others have will give you an idea of what feels right for you and can guide you in making a decision. Either they get to feel useful, or they get to chat with you about whatever topic you changed the subject to. If you can't nudge the conversation so that you don't have to stay on a topic that's not comfortable with you, then try to remember that you always have the option to walk away if you can't deal with it yet. |

I know this easier said than done, but you are what's important. I suggest you go talk with one of your guidance counselorso and explain all that your feel be very transparent about everything that going on and that you need wisdom in making some great decision that will be effecting your life... What about your parents? can you talk with them? Sometimes we need to talk things out in order to get clarity. Hope all works out for you.. And take it easy.. |

WOW I'd be worried too... how is it going so far? I agree with Delight.... talk to whomever you need to and see if there are at least two teachers that teach easier, softer whose classes you can take instead? It's requesting "accommodation" for your "disability"... or for your mental wellness/health. If you must, have your mom have a therapist eval and write a note. I think it's worth it...yes it's a tough year because your peers have no respect for anyone else.
But keep in mind the reason others are so nasty is that THEY are not comfortable either--it's new to them too, and they have found that by making fun of others, putting the focus on others, no one is really looking at them. ![]() Give us an update?

Well this is kind of a late reply, however I'm cuirous; how are you doing now?
Like many others, seeking out your guidance counselor, to perhaps switch classes, or at least work something out would be best. I have a lot of the same fears you do, I had a lot of strict teachers; didn't like them. ~ MissLabarinth

There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause trouble without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood... and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others. They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they've never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them... because in truth, I am that monster.
