I hate school :(

On 12th my last school year will start... and I'm so scared
I don't like my school, or at least the kind of school I chose. We study IT here, and I don't like at all, since the very first year, but I never had the courage to tell my parents that.. so here I am, doing the final year of a school I've never liked to begin with

Even though I passed all of my school years, I've always had trouble studying... I can't stay focused, neither at home or at school. And even if I can... I have dysgraphia, wichh means I can't write down what my teacher is saying, or writing on the blackboard.. I have to use the book, but not everything is in there

And if all of this wasn't enough... I'm very stressed/anxious when I have to do something for school (a test, an assignment, ecc.)... It's not a good feeling.

Phew... sorry if I threw so much stuff in here, but I needed to tell this... I don't know if any of you have any advice or something... but even if you don't, thanks for reading

Hello MickeyCheeky: Well, it's been many years now since the Skeezyks was in school. But I could tell you stories... School was always a disaster for me. And I always hated it. It's a wonder I ever made it through. Come to think of it, I'm not even quite sure how that happened.

The Skeezyks isn't much on giving advice. Since you're so close to finishing, I would say just bear down & power through... you've come so far already. But then, once you're through, do give serious consideration to what you want to do with your life vocationally. Work is such a big chunk of a person's adult life that it makes it really difficult if you dislike what you do for a living.

Yes, I guess going straight to the end of the school year is the only option by this point... the problem comes with the "after"... I don't know what to do for my future

Maybe if you are in your last year of the 4 years, switching wouldn't be smart. But school may be the beginning. Maybe you don't like school because of it being school. Maybe you don't like school because of it being IT. Are you sure you are ready for a career in IT?

What about a second degree in another field? It's your professional life we are talking about as well.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with studying and stuff. It's rough. Especially at your age (I don't mean to sound patronizing I swear! I remember being 18 and hating school and being absolutely rubbish at it).

On the one hand, you're close to the finish line. On the other hand, you're in a program you don't like - because of your parents. That's a struggle as old as time - our parents wanting one thing for us, and we usually want something else.

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what you want to do. But the question is - What DO you want to do? Study? Do as a career?

You still have some time to think about what to do next year. But you're right to think about it since now. Try to look for information about the schools that teach artistic things in your area.
I wasn't very satisfied with my choice for high school either, and I studied something completely different at university, like most of my schoolmates It's quite normal not to know yet what you want to do in your life at the age when you decide which high school to attend.

Don't be Your year just began, you have time. Just look for information and think about it. For example, try to define which artistic field/fields you like. Painting? Making jewelry or other crafts? Other kinds of art? Art therapy maybe? There are many possibilities
Sometimes schools have open days when you can visit and ask questions, maybe you can find out something about this.
I'm sure you can find what you want to do Follow your passions.

Hi Mickey, my son has dysgraphia also. Are you able to record lessons? or use your computer? That's what they allow him to do. Maybe you can discuss this with your teachers. Also when he was younger they would type out study guides for him.

So you've changed your mind. That's okay. If I counted all of my potential career ideas and the amount of different types of courses/programs I took... I'd come up to way past half a dozen. It's your prerogative to change your mind.

Have you thought about seeking out career counselling?

No, I've never tried a career counselling, I've never heard of it and I'm not even sure it those exist in Italy... maybe you can explain me what is it?

baseline, I didn't knew your son had dysgraphia. I completely understand him Anyway, I already use a computer... mine, that is, I have to carry it around when I need to do something important, like a test. But I can't use my computer every day.. it's quite heavy and not very handy.. so I'm stuck with just writing It's not that big of a problem, tbh.. but it is an annoyance :/

Mickey, I live in Italy too! I didn't notice you did too.
I know that here universities usually have counselors to help you with the choice of your courses before beginning, but I don't if there is something similar also outside university, in case you want a school/course that isn't university.

That's a surprise I don't know if there are other schools/courses outside of univerities.. but I wasn't thinking of that, anyway thank you

You still have a whole year, look for information and think about it, you have time Maybe thinking that next year you'll do something nice will help you to feel better also this year.

Alright I'll try... I'll probably ask someone for help, too... a counselor, my therapist... or anyone that could be helpful.

Saw this thread and could relate to the title, though my hatred with school was more about being bullied.

I thought of something that someone else may of mentioned, but didn't see it. Would you be allowed to bring some sort of recording device to class so that you could record your lessons?

No, I don't think I'm allowed to record lessons. My school is quite strict about privacy and such.

I'm so stupid... today we organised (for tomorrow) a meeting with some universities to help students decide where they will go after high school... but I didn't get that, and so I ignored the whole thing, and when I found out it was too late
