What does optimism provide the world?

My Catholic school teacher once told me "do not get out of bed angry, lay there with the covers over your head and only get up when you are ready to get through the day with a thankful heart and a smile on your face." We all have bad days I mean this year I woke up late on picture day and had major bedhead that I could not tame. My friends who you could call the optimists of this situation tried to tell me how beautiful I looked tried to support me through it. When I stepped onto the stage in my heart I believed I looked beautiful then I met the camera man, he didn't smile didn't even tell me to smile and my confidence floated away. Now all I think when I see that photo is it's ugly and no one can tell me otherwise. The world needs optimists because optimists make you feel beautiful, strong, hopeful. Bad hair to an optimist is just a bad day and a funny memory bad hair to a pessimist is a death sentence, social suicide, or something you will never forget. I guess that makes me sound like an pessimist because I hated my hair that day and will never forget but really it's just a story to tell my children some day. My father and I had a discussion at dinner one day about this speech actually and he made a valid point, to be successful you do not have to be an optimist look at Edgar Allen Poe his entire family died of tuberculosis but his poems became cherished at his death. My point in this discussions was these pessimists that you listed off to me, they don't have families do they? Pessimists push people away because they don't believe that their life is going to be successful, that they can't give the world anything, and they deserve to be alone. Optimism is the foundation of family because they believe in one another, love one another and are convinced their love with succeed through time. Without families there would be no economy, there would be no history, there would be no life. I'm not saying that we don't need pessimists or that they exist because everyone has doubts in life. As you can see (what you may not know about me) I have a intellectual disability known as spastic dysplasie, a cerebral palsy caused by my pre mature birth. Throughout my life I have been called an inspiration, a beacon of hope, a girl who's going places but I've also been called a cripple, a freak, a spaz. People justify bullying with inexperience or insensitivity but I see the fine line between optimists and pessimists. There are those who believe that being disabled doesn't change who I am or how successful I am in school and those who just think being disabled means you are useless to society. Who do I believe? Well guess what, I am am a sophomore with at least a 3.5 GPA and I have three professions in line but my only goal is to help people and change the world. I believe the optimists.

I read a story once saying that a bunch of people ran for a race. In the road, people would discourage the runners. At the end, only one runner made it to the finish line, and he was deaf . Yes, people around us can encourage or discourage us, but it's always what we believe about ourselves that matter the most.

Optimists see the world how it could be. Pessimists see the world as it is.
Thanks for this!

I voted "It's great!" and love all the points you made.

One possible suggestion--take out "My point in this discussions was these pessimists that you listed off to me, they don't have families do they? Pessimists push people away because they don't believe that their life is going to be successful, that they can't give the world anything, and they deserve to be alone. Optimism is the foundation of family because they believe in one another, love one another and are convinced their love with succeed through time. "

Though I agree with all the points made in this part--you speech might be easier to follow without this. Congratulations on your success!
