What do you mean when you say it has to be about yourself? What exactly is the assignment?

Good luck with the speech. Are you nervous about speaking in front of the class?

When is this speech due? What your teacher's assigned you, is probably what's called an ice-breaker speech where you speak for 5-7 minutes in front of the class giving highlights of yourself (interests, hobbies, beliefs, values). Correct? My assignment (heh heh) for you dear, is to watch some ice-breaker speeches on YouTube (Toastmasters comes to mind) and then create an outline of what you want to talk about. It does NOT need to go into your mental health struggles, unless you want to. Do you have an outline you follow for your ice breaker speech? If not, here's an example: List 4 things you'd like the audience to know about yourself. 1. I like romantic comedies (list a few of my favorite movie titles) 2. I am into intermittent fasting (its pros, its cons, why I choose to do it) 3. Places I've traveled to (internationally, locally, some highlights) 4. My favorite animals are (list off a few and why they are my favorites) See? Nothing about my anxiety disorder in there. My classmates would not need to know this information about me. I can easily fill 5-7 minutes talking about those 4 things b/c I'm a blatherer by nature. HA! So, have fun with your speech, ok? |

Speech class used to be the bane of my existence, then I learned 5-7 minutes speech is nothing after teaching a 30-60 minute class.
Good luck on your speech and remember to practice and practice it for the best outcome. |
