Hi Great Forest,
Are you into blueprinting? I know autocad could be used to map a whole house or even a small electrical panel, and so many things in between and beyond, I don't think you have to be on the mechanic side of it but you will have to abide by regulation when drawing I imagine. Are you aware of this?

Another route is design or prep work using 3d modeling which is very cool as well. From designing a watch for style to the tool paths the machine takes to cut out a car rim.

I think youll find at times the job is split in two where one person will do the computer modeling and another has the mechanics side of it down like you mentioned. The only problem I foresee is the computer side coming from China or India and is outsourced. But if your good enough, Id imagine a pretty good future if you enjoy the work.

Please don't quote me on anything just some small experiences Ive had around autocad

If your really interested:

Go up on monster.com indeed.com or other job sites and search for autocad or drafting jobs.

Try looking up some of the terms they use or the responsibilities and see if your interested.

Hope that helps too.
Thanks for this!
