Right I've been thumbing through some books and have got myself confused over consciousness and perception. Both different yet the same. But I still struggle to identify the differences any suggestions would be very welcome.

There are several ways to think of perception. The simplest way is to think of your senses. You can have visual perception, olfactory perception, etc. Those have nothing to do with consciousness.

Then, you can have perception along the lines of awareness, and THAT perception does overlap with consciousness.
