Specifically the feeling good the mood therapy handbook. There's a chapter in the book that helps fight procrastination, one of the techniques is but/rebuttal technique. I have tried it a couple of times and it felt like it helped. But what I want to know is if this is just in my head or does this stuff actually work?

It's an excellent method, based upon the old/former "balance sheet" of putting pros and cons in columns against each other.... it might also help with prioritizing what is important and what can truly wait.... by showing all the reasons it needs to be done sooner rather than later.

Oft times we form resistance only in our minds and by putting things into a visual focus we can see, usually, that the project is not so big or complicated at all...but also might be very valuable to us... limiting wasted time on projects gives freedom for those that are important.

All self help books don't help everyone, but if you find something that works, use it!

(One example of a "self help" book I caution against doing by oneself is The Courage to Heal.... the workbook is great, but can really take a toll on a person's psyche without psychological assistance from a professional.)

PS, The David Burns' Feeling Good Handbook is an excellent resource.
