I eat fast food at least once a week. And I get coffee several times a week.

I wish I could stop this. It’s not healthy and it’s expensive.

I’ve been trying to cut back but it’s become a bad habit. I’ve been doing better though since I really have to watch my money.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break this habit?

Please see the thread I just started:

What you need is to have a well-stocked pantry (it does not have to be large - I live with a roommate and only have on big kitchen cupboard section) and a freezer full of good stuff. If these necessities are taken care of, you can lapse on buying fresh produce, dairy and other refrigerated stuff and still eat well. But of course it is best to also have a well-stocked fridge.

You are in Chicago, so you have Trader Joe's and what have you. As long as you can dedicate one day a week shopping at Trader Joe's or where you prefer to shop, you can have a routine with zero fast food and zero coffee stops.

What meals are your favorite? Do you have a crock pot? A blender? If you tell me what you like eating, I can be helpful.
Thanks for this!

I will tell u what stops me in my tracks, I have read stories in newspapers and on Youtube about fast food resteraunts and what and how food is made behind closed doors. From stories of employees throwing buns on the floor before building your burger, people getting their hair in your food, and also spitting on it first. I have already found a band aid in a piece of bakery I picked up at a local store. I guess I don't even go to regular resteraunts either because of this. I was a waitress at a fine dining place and saw what the chef's did to the food....YUCK! Not to mention how filthy most of these places are, or where and how they keep the food.
Thanks for this!

I live on green smoothies which includes only one cup of fruit (usually a banana and few grapes), eight cups of greens and an avocado. It is healthy, quite inexpensive, super quick and easy to make and avocado makes it creamy and delicious. Besides, avocado is full fat so it keeps me full.
Most people find it disgusting but it is very healthy and convenient.
Another thing that works for me is the tracking app called MyFitnessPal. You can scan anything you eat or enter the name of it and it pulls you the nutrition value of each item. Fast food items usually slaps you in the face with their unhealthy and destructive nutritional stories.

I like Lean Cusines and other healthy TV dinners.

I also like baked lays chips. I seem to have enough snacks in my cupboard, but not enough meals. I bought 8 cases of soda. And if I have lemons in the house it’s much easier to drink water. And a lot of it.

I guess I just don’t know what to do for meals. Especially lunches. I’d love to eat Ramen everyday, but I am sensitive to sodium and I worry about the chemicals in the noodles. So I try to stick to one a week. Or every other week. But that’s just hypocritical because fast food is not any better.

I do sometimes think about fast food workers unintentionally or intentionally doing something to my food. For me I mostly worry about proper hygiene. But I do wonder if they spit in my food.

I’ve only been in Trader Joe’s twice. Once to get cookie butter and once to get unsweetened blueberry pomegranate iced tea. Which also helps me drink less iced coffee. I might go to Trader Joe’s when I get more money. What are your suggestions of things to buy there?

I do have a blender. I have a crock pot but I don’t know how to use it.

I use my Fitbit app to track calories.

What would you think of oatmeal for meals? You can microwave it. There are lots of options for flavoring it, such as honey, peanut butter, or raisins.

I ate fast food eg fried foods with burgers for two weeks straight and got sick yesterday. I felt so sick that I thought I was going to throw up. So, today I ate a veggie sandwich, salad, and tea. I feel a whole lot better and am not interested in eating anymore fast food for awhile.

i struggle with obesity. I used to be a D1 two major sport athlete and very fit. Ever since i stopped sports and started working i feel like i lost something in myself and now i don't have that sport to help keep me disciplined with diet and excersize. Slowly starting to gain hold as i haven't had fast food in the last 8 or 9 days.

I have been eating out too much. I need to stop eating fast food too, such as Mexican food. It tastes good but makes me fat. Also, it is expensive to eat Mexican in Asia.
