I've had some of those hoarding shows playing while I try to figure out where I can put the stuff that's blocking my hall. One of the shows had a counselor asking the home owner whether they needed something to live a functional life or if they wanted it. I'm trying to ask myself that question as I go through these things.
I also came across a tip, I think in one of these shows, suggesting that you just handle the thing once. I tend to defer decisions and move things from one place to another, so I am trying to catch that as well... although I did take a stack of DVDs I will probably never watch and move them from one bookshelf to another, so not sure how well that's working for me... |

I haven't done well lately. All the anxiety leading up to buying the house and tensions with my mother were all I could handle for a while. We get the keys to the house in the next few days, so we are going to have to face more decluttering.

Thanks Buffy! We decided we NEED to set aside some time this weekend getting rid of things that we don't want to bring to the new house. Before we can move in, we need to get a handyman in there to do some things, so we have a few weeks to deal with getting rid of stuff. There's a lot of stuff that we won't be moving.
Wish me luck! |

Good luck!
I visited my mother last week and saw some rooms I hadn't seen in a while (that she didn't want me to look at). They were full to the brim. It's no wonder I have clutter issues growing up the way I did. |

Got all the christmas stuff away. Only took two rounds of under the basement stairs tetres to get it all put away. Living room doesn't look too bad. Before I put up the tree I managed to get the grandson to give up the big lego! Of course I knew that there was more lego in his future lol! Fortunately the new stuff doesn't take up as much room as the big stuff did.
Still moving slow the dr upped my thyroxian hopefully that will help. At least I'm thinking better and have lost a few pounds. I have even restarted physiotherapy I have a few more bags of clothes to go to donations plus some toys the grandson has decided are for babies. Then I really need to get my room finished. Of course while trying to keep up on the other daily stuff. Oh in the mean time I also have to go through the 7 large cloth bags of movies a friend gave me. Most I will pack up for donation but there are a few I really want to see. I now have Boy In the Bubble on DVD!! I need more time!!! |

Well last weekend wasn't bad.
We went through tons of old file folders. A lot was old articles from a previous job I could dump. There were also old bills, deposit receipts for mutual funds I have since cashed in to buy the house, etc. We don't have a shredder but we cut out all the personal information, burnt that and got rid of the rest. It felt good. I also got rid of a bag of clothes. Here if you put it by the dumpster people will usually take it either to wear to to sell at a flea market. We need to do the same this weekend. We get the keys to the new place on Feb 5th so time is becoming crucial. |

22 years ago I bought a travel bag that I've taken everywhere. That bag has gone on so many trips! It's also really worn out - the bottom fabric is basically see through, there are tears in several spots - it's really ratty looking and questionably functional due to the transparent bottom fabric. But the zippers still work!
I finally purchased a new bag last night. I can't get rid of my old bag. It feels like throwing away a friend that has been with me on all my trips. It feels like I am abandoning my bag or mistreating it by putting it in the trash. I don't understand how I can have all these thoughts about my bag like it was a person. Even though it is torn and the fabric is worn out, I feel like it is still useful for something. Not sure what since I worry about setting it down on the ground and moisture damaging what's inside. I think about sewing some new fabric on top of it, but I've thought about that for years and still haven't done it, so I don't think it's going to happen. I'm probably going to stick it in a closet for now and see if I feel differently in a few months. |

Well, we got really lucky this past weekend. Heading to the grocery store on Saturday we saw a lot of old furniture on the sidewalks. We realized that the municpal government was having one of those days where you can take stuff out to the curb and they will dispose of it for free. In theory, they charge if you call for a pick-up, although they have taken stuff for free twice. We got rid of a bunch of old furniture we don't plan to bring to the new house, an old bike, etc. It was great.
I have another 4 garbage bags of stuff to take out to the dumpster today. Both my husband and I went through more closets and cabients in the past few days. |

4 garbage bags is awesome, rechu! I got dump tags for a couple of things that have been sitting on my porch all winter, so those will go tomorrow. I really felt the urge to spring clean this weekend, but I didn't act on it enough - and now it's snowing and the urge is passing, lol.

I hope you can get the motivation back hvert. We are moved into the new house so much lighter in terms of posessions/clutter. By the last days we were ruthless, getting rid of stuff right and left! A charity and neighbors took the last furniture, appliances and all that we decided not to move.
