Hoarding

I am still struggling with hoarding. I still have anxiety at the thought of throw in away items I can't used or need anymore.any suggestions? I have a few months before I might get a new bed. It was the last thing bed my cat black magic curl up on before passing away. I already got rid of one mattress and soon the next mattress sometime in the end of this year or early next year. I know I have enough time from now until then to get ready. I still freaking out! Any suggestions?

I been cleaning out more of my closet. I can almost close my closet by next year my closet should be organized.

Sounds like you are making progress. Don't think of it as giving up things. You are giving yourself the gift of more space. Some "stuff" just doesn't earn its keep. I'm a mild to moderate hoarder. But that's bad enough to make me feel like I'm drowning in stuff.

If you search for "decluttering" on YouTube, there are some inspiring videos. I actually hired a professional organizer. They're expensive, and I'm low income. Still, it was worth the money to me. I needed the emotional support to part with things.

Good luck whittling down your excess baggage. It actually takes some courage.

Yaaay! That's big news. Good for you. As time passes, eventually you won't even remember a lot of what you let go of. Enjoy the space you have created. It's a nice gift you've given yourself.

That can be a powerful reason to feel you have to hang on to things. Sometimes we keep a thing because we feel the peron who gave it would be hurt, if we didn't. That might be reason enough to keep a thing. But ask yourself if that is really true about each item you no longer really want. Usually, it isn't.

I'm very sentimental myself. It can be a struggle to balance that with being practical. Here's how I look at it: Clutter is like rocks in a backpack that I have to lug around. After a certain point, I get tired of "stuff" ruling my life. Every item I own requires a certain amount of maintenance. There is a limit to how much of my time and attention I want to devote to curating stuff. I've got better things to do. So have you.

You have made progress. Keep going, even a little bit at a time. It adds up. You'll like the result. Letting go of something that was given to you does not mean you've stopped loving the giver.
