I constantly do this. Negative self-talk. "You are old". "You are late". "You are not achieved". "You are a joke". "You are a failure". "You are a shame". And when I try to do something to build my self-esteem again, the negative self-talk brings me down. I wish I knew how I can overcome this vicious cycle. I know there is no magic solution, but I just cannot bring myself to do anything. I am unemployed now and all I have tried to achieve was for nothing, and I will probably end up homeless in few months. It's all in my mind. My mind is against me. My mind is my worst enemy.

I'm so sorry, Background Noise It must be really hard to deal with this. One useful exercise that I know of is to try to substitute those negative thougths with positive ones. Recognize when you're doing negative self-talk and try to think positively and rationally. If you think you're a failure, tell yourself that you aren't and try to remember all the things that you've accomplished - even the very small ones. It's not easy, especially when you're depressed, but it may be worth a shot. I'm so sorry, please don't give up. I wish I had more advice for you. If you want to vent, I'm here to listen. Feel free to PM me anytime. I'm always available if you need to talk. Sending many hugs to you

I am sorry you are going through this as well. Do you see a therapist? They can help you straighten out your thinking.

when you start the negative self talk shout in your head SHUT UP !!!!! tell yourself
I am worthwhile - I deserve to be happy

fake it till you make it - you wont believe it at first - or even after a while but it helps - it really does

Stopping negative self talk before starting is better, then there is no need to shout. On the other hand, I do see meaning in self-reflection and other methods of self-talk. Find a balance between faking, feeling, seeing and believing is the difficult part in whatever darkness faced.

It sounds like a part of your negativity is coming from you thinking you are too old to improve or try new things, and that you’ve left it too late (I haven’t seen your other posts, so I’m sorry if I’m wrong). You’re never too old to improve your life or try something new, and it’s never too late.

You are as important as the people around you, and deserve to be happy and to enjoy yourself. Maybe you didn’t succeed in one part of your life, but it doesn’t mean you can’t succeed in another. You could surprise yourself.

Are there any hobbies you think you would enjoy, or have always wanted to try? You could find employment through something you are good at or enjoy doing.

Achievement can have many meanings, including simple ones such as overcoming your negativity. Making a list of the things you like about yourself could make you feel better about yourself, even if it’s only temporary.

I’m sorry to hear about what you’re going through, and I hope things will get better for you.

At this point I don't enjoy doing anything, and I matter to no one, even family. I am sure if I vanish now, no one would notice. Sometimes I think if I die in my apartment, no one would know before 3-4 days only from the smell. No one checks on me. Maybe someone might say it's my fault. Partly yes, but I have tried so hard to connect with people, but people consider me as an annoyance because I have nothing to offer.

But you matter to people on this thread. If you do not respond after several days, we would be worried about you, thinking about what might have happened, and hoping that soon you would pop up.

I see you are angry with you situation. Don't give up. I am in the same way as you. I realized where some of my negative self talk came from and I tell the talk that it is wrong and that I am good, worthwhile, worthy of all good and I keep telling it to myself over and over and over and over. It takes some time to break old habits but new habits overcome them. Positive self talk does work. I also looked at all the food and substances I was taking in and changed all of that, too, so that I have the best chance at surviving to the future with end stage liver disease.

Don't give up, negative self-talk is a had habit to break, alot of what you've said id negative self talk, it unlikely that you really know if people think you're an annoyance, this is probably your negative self talk again.

Have you tried re-framing the questions you have about yourself, one of the questions I ask my self everyday is what do I love about myself and I must come up with an answer.

Another one is who can I send a note of appreciation or gift to and I do it. You'd be amazed at the difference this makes in your relationships. There are things you can do to get out of this and you have a support network here if you need us
