Anyone else struggle to do things you know you need to do to get better, but just can't?

I've read enough to know a handful of basic things to make my situation better, but I just struggle to do them. Then I get frustrated when nothing seems to be getting better. I heard once, "you can't learn to swim by reading a book." You have to get wet.

Why then is it so hard to take action on the things I've heard repeatedly that will make things better?

Anyone figured this out and have actually made progress?

Dear AgentQ9A,

I wish I knew the cause of the situation you face. I struggle with a similar situation. In my case, it is the illness of depression that destroys my motivation and handicaps my energy. Depression is such a cruel and brutal illness.

I sure hope you find solutions to your dilemma.

So sorry that I can not be helpful to you in this. Maybe other members here will see your post and respond with something helpful. I hope so!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Thanks Yaowen! For me with anxiety, I have lots of extra energy I need to burn off rather than let my mind spin. Part of my problem is that I'm not very good at creating habits. I've read 21-30 days to create a new habit, but for me on day 31 I can just not do whatever it is and not think about it. Then a week later I realize that I used to do something for a long time and it helped, and I'm not entirely sure why I stopped.

Maybe this is more about not being able to create habits. Maybe I should put todo lists together and post them around the house.

Anyway, it's frustrating.

Thanks again.

Edit: Just read something that said some habits can take up to a year to stick. Damn.
