So today I was depressed for no reason, just one of my turns.
Then after a while of trying to feel better with positive thoughts and failing, I took action!

I exercised for about an hour and did the following :
10 mins of rowing machine workout
30 mins of jump roping
10 push ups
and then 20 mins of light jogging with my pup.

I listened to music also and had the company of my dog around so I wouldn't feel lonely doing it, cause I know some people have trouble working out alone, I know I do.

I was drenched in sweat because I'm not very active but I have to say when I was done and after I showered I felt soooo much better both physically and mentally.

Just maybe something you can try if you've tried it all and not have anything work... :3

Good Luck. Feel free to share workout tips and ect.

Hi The Bakery,
I like your approach to feeling better. I know when I was able to be active i always called it "Me Time" Still do it but not really as much as I want to

Thank you for posting this. Indeed, exercise always makes me feel better after doing it. It's so important for people who are struggling with mental illness to exercise regularly.
Thanks for this!

Man, I was going to make a post just like this! I was feeling like crap after dropping my ex off at her boyfriend's and instead of letting myself fall into the usual self-destructive habits I just started running and didn't stop for 40 minutes. Well. I had to walk periodically, since it's been while since I've even bothered to run for the bus.

And now I feel great!

Exercising helps me deal with my anxiety far better than my prn meds for anxiety; most of the time anyway! I sprained my ankle a while back and couldn't go through my normal exercise habits and I thought I was going to go crazy from all the pressure building up inside of me.
Thanks for this!

I recently started taking my meds again but I don't do therapy or anything. So in place of that I've tried to establish my own therapy. I started a vitamin regimine, a diet (nothing serious just better choices in what I eat), and a better sleep schedule. But what has shown the most promise is running. I get up at 6:30AM 4 days a week (when I'm home at that time) and run at least a mile. If I'm feeling anxious this will almost kill all the symptoms! With my anxiety sometimes I feel like its more stored up energy that a mental condition. I just have to find a way to let it out!

I find swimming and walking work for me. But I am struggling with low energy and pain at the moment and find it easy to overdo things. Hard to find a balance - enough to give me a lift but not so much that it drains me.

I don't get the burn or rush that other people do - maybe because I don't run or work really hard - I just do enough to get slightly breathless and sweat. I try to focus on technique when swimming as a mindfulness thing and on my surroundings when walking as an awareness and learning thing. I need to engage mind and body!
Thanks for this!

I like swimming mindfully as well. Lots to pay attention to The feel of movinh through the water, blowing bubbles, watching bubbles, counting laps. And geting into a rhythm - swim. Slowly. It takes me almost an hour to do a mile. Quite by accident, my daughter has become my best motivator. I brought her and a friend to open swim while I did laps. Now she asks to go often. While I can ignore a schedule or a workout partner or a coach, its harder to deny my girl! I'm about a month into a routine of swimming and find I miss it if I skip too many days. Much easier to sleep and deal with stress now!

Thanks for starting this thread, El-ahrairah! Exercise rocks!! I hike hills every day with my dogs and I also do some running. I've had to cut back on the running because of various injuries over the years and general wear and tear but I still do it and it always makes me feel better. I definitely get an endorphin rush afterwards. I don't get that rush from hiking because I don't push myself as hard as when I run, but the hiking still feels good.

For me personally exercise alone isn't enough and I do need to take medication. But exercise is a very powerful "tool" to manage anxiety and depression and I know I'd be worse off without it.

It's great to hear about people exercising and getting so many benefits from it!
Thanks for this!
