I was talking to my T about cutting yesterday, and she said that I've sort of grown out of cutting, because it doesn't mean the same thing to me than it did when I first started. I'm still trying to figure out what this means. Any ideas from you all?

It sorta means "growing up" and/or "changing" ... anything like that.

It means that you're closer to being able to give up self-injury than you would be otherwise... once we change how we think about it, and how we use it - then we're better able to cope without it. (In my opinion anyways)

That makes sense. It was just weird, because we were talking about when I started (5 years ago) and why, and then she said given how much I've grown up over the years, it's role in my life was obviously different, so in her opinion, I've sort of grown out of it. I guess the way she phrased it didn't make sense because, sure it's changed and used for different things now, but ultimately, it does the same thing for me that it always has.

That does seem weird to me then. Hmm. Because if you're still doing it. But yeah. It could just mean you've kinda more grown out of it because you think differently of self harm or you do it less or whatever.

Good luck figuring this one out x

I plan to. We didn't really have enough time to discuss it in my last session, and because there will be 2 weeks until my next session, I know that there will be a lot to cover, so just in case, I wanted to get opinions from you all.
Thanks for this!
