Does anyone else hate the word cutter? Especially when other people say it, when other people say it they sound like they are disgusted by word. I just don't like the word "cutter". Am I the only one that thinks that?

Any of the stigma atached to cuttnig or self harming(&there's a lot of it these days) in general is horrible. People who say what you have written probably just don't understand it, a lot of people don't unforunetly. And they just don't want to know. They have a percieved view of these 'cutters'. I think there's a lot of campaigns and stuff being done everywhere to try and get people to change what they think about people with mental illnesses.
I hate it when people say that. It somehow jus makes you feel even worse for doing it. Like there belittling you.wish people would understand it's not a choice . f*** if it was I would have stopped my self the first time.

I taunt myself with that word. Look in the mirror and remind myself that I'm "a freakin 'cutter'".
(I don't think it's right and I'm not defending it at all.)

I do not like it at all. I've had people come up to me and say "why you don't you go in a corner and cut yourself" when they don't realize that I actually do. I think that people use the word "cutter" too often and too lightly. I'm in no way saying that I like that people use it to describe people who cut. I think that if there was a level of understanding about why people do it, there would be less of a gap between people that do cut or SI and people that don't.

I like it better than "self-harm." I don't know why, but I would rather have someone say "you cut" or are a "cutter" compared to someone saying "you self-harm."
Maybe because I don't think about it as "self-harm," because it actually keeps me functioning.

Both suck.

I hate that word. I feel weird when people say it and when I say it. Anything involved with the word 'cut' really.

You do have a choice to probe into why you need to create physical manifestations of your pain.

There was no word for my experience.

I just never thought that this thought had anything to do with anything other than my own brains. Remaining nameless is fine with me and as Byzantine has used suits me better: a physical manifestation of my emotional pain.

The 'process out' of using this 'physical manifestation' has stealed its way into my being just as the first initial thought stealed its way in, both are fairly nameless. The 'process out' came through a realization that there was even a thought in the first place. You deserve peace.

Don't let the words fool you away from hope of a better way, albeit a narrow way.

Love,
Hunny

The word never really bothered till one of my friends was joking about being a "cutter" and the way she was describing a person was depressed 24/7 and just sits in the corner and cries herself to sleep everynight... I don't do do that but I do cause pain to myself. I feel like no matter what word you say its just not going to sound right...

I too hate this word because of the heavy stigma it carries, especially in high school because it is connected to the "emo" trend.
