I didn't start SIing until I was in my 20's. I've only cut once and not enough to leave scars. Typically it's scratching or digging fingernails in or hair pulling. Not sure why I do it or what started it. It only happens during heated arguments with SOs when I feel so overwhelmed I can't take it.

My husband knows about it because I've done it in front of him. He seems to think I have more control over it than I do. It frustrates me when he tells me "It's not normal" and I end up telling him, "I'm not normal!" I'm in therapy which has cut down on the number of arguments, but it hasn't really helped because once I'm dis-regulated it's all over.

Should I just be glad that I'm not taking things to the extreme? No permanent damage yet.

What do you want?

Perhaps you might copy your post and give it to your therapist?

How about inviting your husband to a therapy session or two so he knows SI is no simple matter?

Good luck.
