Hello, everyone. I'm new here, so I will tell a little about myself. I'm a woman in her mid-40's with two adult children and two grandchildren.

Last year, my family experienced a trauma that has taken a huge toll on me. I've lost my job, most of my life savings, my interest in everything, my self-confidence, etc.. I've been in therapy since January for major depression and anxiety disorder (talk therapist and a shrink for meds).

I started to SI in April and it quickly accellerated to the point that I was hospitalized for a few days to "break the cycle". I couldn't even believe what I was doing to myself and I thought at first that I must be some kind of freak. I realized after surfing the internet that I'm not alone in this, but the message boards that I've visited have been populated primarily by teenagers. ( I guess I'm a late bloomer.) I may be the oldest one here, but it's a relief to see that so many of you are adults.

BTW, it's been almost three weeks since I last cut.

Julie

Welcome to the forums somebodyelse :O)

We have a pretty wide variety of ages here and alot of really great people so I think you will find yourself pretty comfortable here. Read some of the old posts to get to know people and post whatever you feel comfortable with.

Welcome to the boards, somebodyelse.........we are a good group here. I am about your age, 41, next week 42.....lol.

I SI quite a bit lately, so I understand how it can become addicting. We'll try to help you as much as possible.

Btw, congrats on not cutting for that long. That is great.

Glad you found us, welcome to the room. I am 36 years old, have been hurting myself since I was twelve. I just completed 4 full weeks without any SI. Woo Hoo! I give the credit to massive chocolate intake. I am doing an experiment up until I see my Pdoc on the 25th. I am consuming chocolate 4 to 5 times a day. Have been since the 7th of september which was the last time I cut. Problem is weight gain so I have started putting unsweetened baking coa coa into empty gel tabs. Seems to be as affective as eating the high cal stuff but only 5 cal per dose instead of 100. Now I just have to lose the 1 1/2 pounds I have gained and I will be a happy chocolate covered hen. Ha ha. It has been a fun experiment anyway. We will see how it goes for the next 3 weeks. Then we will see what my psychiatrist has to say about the experiment. What fun. But shoot I have hopes, I mean going from injurying myself at least once a week to not at all in 4 weeks and the only change has been the chocolate...well that is saying something. Anyway...*carrie licks off the chocolate soymilk mustache off her lip* I think I better head to bed. Take care and I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Julie, Welcome here. I read your response to my post first so am going at this backwards. I'm 41. I did SI as a child and teen, then quit. In my mid 30s I had a relapse into the behavior and still struggle with it at times. Not sure why the relapse, but suspicious that it has to do with hormones.

Thanks to all of you for welcoming me to the group!

Willow, you could be right on the money about the hormones. Get 'em out of whack and they'll do a real number on your emotions.
