For some strange reason I just don't want him to die. I'm trying not to cry but it doesn't make sense! He murdered people but I can't fathom his heart stopping. I don't want it to happen! Why can't he just be labeled as criminally insane and made to live?
He said he was "thrilled" to die! Doesn't that tell them Something about him? Don't they care? Why don't people understand? It breaks my heart and I still don't know why this is bothering me so much but I'm really upset about this. :,-{ |

To be criminally insane means that a person does not know that their actions are wrong. I have seen nothing that supports that.
I do not know why you care about him. I doubt many people do except perhaps his mother. Many people do not support the death penalty even in heinous crimes. Is that what you are thinking?

Ebpm, maybe it upsets you because you think that his mental health got him to this point and that for him to get to this point he really fell through the cracks and didn't get the help that he needed? Can you relate to not getting the help that you need?

Yoda:
Yeah I know...it just...seems wrong that our government chooses whether you live or die. It just seemed really cruel at the time but yes he deserves it. Sannah: Yes I s'spose that could be it. I don't know why I got so upset when the guy himself was happy with the outcome. |

Because maybe you don't think that he is "in his right mind"?

Ebpm, I was thinking today about this case when I heard that the jurors chose the death penalty. I was wondering if perhaps because this criminal had said that he wanted the death penalty made you think that he felt remorse or that he actually felt he deserved death for the horrors he committed. Then I realized that he quite likely would prefer to have the death sentence rather than life in prison because prison inmates often will abuse other inmates who have harmed children. Perhaps he wanted the death sentence because he knew he would be safe if he were not mixed in with the general prison population and he wanted the seclusion where he would be protected from other inmates. Bad things happen in prison to people who harmed children and raping an 11 year old girl and torturing her for 7 hours before setting her on fire with gasoline would make a whole lot of people want to hurt him. Just sayin'.

Yes I know....I was just acting a bit strange that day...I think it's from lack of sleep or something I don't know.
It might be a couple years though...before he actually dies I think, cuz they still have the other equally sick dude's trial. But I hear that sometimes families will ask that the convict have life in prison, as this will give them a chance to reflect on their actions. I wish we didn't have the death penalty...it still seems weird to me. Wouldn't you want them to suffer longer with the knowledge of what they have done? Wouldn't that be more drawn out and torturous? Rrrrrrgh.... |
