I've just been to the general physician for a check-up and it was not that long ago, that I had the urge to cut. Therefore 31 very visible cuts were on my lower thigh. I bandaged it because I felt very ashamed of it, 28 years old and unable to stop this behaviour. I didn't want the doctor to see the cuts, but of course I was asked about it. Since I didn't want to lie I tried to keep my answers short and general. (got injured..) It was very embarressing and I was wondering, if some of you experienced similar things. If so, did you open up and told the doctor that you'd injured yourself?

I had that similiar situation with my doctor. She asked me what had happen and I didn't answer her right away because it caught me off guard. She insured me that I could tell her anything, I told her that I S.I. she didn't get upset and wanted to know why, that I didn't tell her. The only thing she did was refer me to go speak to somebody. Of course I took the info that she gave me, but didn't never followed thru with it. I wasn't ready to expose myself in that matter. The main concern that she had was if i felt suicidual or not. I was afraid though I thought she lock me up some where and throw away the key, but that didn't happen so now when I see her she just asks me how am I doing and what can she do to help.

Had a similar funny story though with my pedicure technician. I use to cut on the inner side of my right foot and when ever I went to get a pedicure they would always ask about it and examine me foot. More then one technician at a time would do this, it was quite embarrassing. I now have been done cutting for two years and have a beautiful tattoo to cover up the scars but I just wanted to lighten the mood a little.

I think that it is good that physicians inquire about SI. Hopefully21, I'm glad that you had an understanding physician.
