Hello

I have recently been self harming more and I can't seem to stop self harming. My sister has asked me if I wanted to go to the doctors but I'm not so sure. I'm worried that I might not be treated properly or I doubt whether I have an issue or not. My friend spoke to me about the doctors. Going to the doctors is a maybe but these negative thoughts keep going round in my mind and it keeps putting me in doubt. I asked a friend whether I need professional help and he said yes. Last time I went to the doctors which was about a year ago, I was given anti-depressants and I don't think drugs could help.

Please help me to decide whether I should go. I might go but these negative thoughts keep putting me in doubt about whether I should go. I know where my GPs are and I can arrange a day to go to visit the doctor. I'm also kind of scared of the doctor and I'm worried I won't be able to speak properly as I get nervous when speaking to doctors. I also asked if my sister would be with me and she said yes. Also my sister is only 13 years old and she is worried about me. She's scared and even cried about it. Is going to the doctors one step to happiness and help me to stop self harm? Do you have any advice? Any advice is appreciated.

I agree with nice girl, going to the doctor sounds like a good idea. They can refer you to see a therapist, or psychiatrist, maybe both, and both of these roles can be very important in overcoming self harm, or any mental illness.

As for your worry about speaking to doctors, maybe you can write down everything you want to say on a piece of paper so if you get jumbled up, you can simply refer to the paper? (I've done this before, and it's helped...I just made a bullet point list of subjects I wanted to speak about.)

It's great that you're really thinking about getting better, and even though seeing the doctor can be scary, I think this will be a very positive thing for you. Plus, it seems like you have great support with your sister, it's very clear she cares about you a lot.

I hope you'll keep us updated on how you're doing. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts!
Thanks for this!

I found talking about my self harm meant i didn't have to do it as much, It released some of the built up pressure that caused me to cut . . .then I stopped cutting altogether.

Good luck.

I feel like I need help. I keep self harming. I tried to stop but I failed. Who can I go to, to help me stop self harming? Should I go to the doctor? I feel like there is nothing wrong with me. I need some advice.
You've asked multiple times if you should get help. Please take care of yourself! Even in that post you say you need help, but you think nothing is wrong with you. Maybe this is a sign that getting help would be beneficial. I feel like you are scared of going and actually telling them what is wrong so they can help. The people in this community want to help you through your struggles, but we can only support you. The pdocs, gps, therapists; they are part of your arsenal to help you work on your mental health.

I think it would help you a lot to write down, then print your feelings.(Or print a couple posts off of this site) This way you can give it to the doctor and you don't have to worry about forgetting what you need to express. I really really hope you get some help HappyCheeks.<3
