I originally posted this on my facebook:

Quote:
Dear Everyone.

I, Christie Stewart, have been injuring myself ever since I was 7 or 8 years old, in various ways. It included intentionally falling down to get a scrape on my arms or knees, head banging, punching/hitting myself and other things, and skin picking. When I was 14, I took up cutting. I haven't self-injured for about 3-4 months, and so far in the past 9.5 months have only done it 3 times. I have made a goal to not cut or otherwise self-injure in any way for the whole year of 2011. Recently, I decided that if I go this whole year without self-injuring, I am going to get a tattoo of a nautical star on my left inner forearm, where many of my scars are. I have wanted this tattoo for a long time but was unsure where or if to get it. But now I have given this tattoo a meaning, more than just looking cool. It will serve as a reminder for whenever I get tempted to self-injure, that I am so strong that I can go a whole year without doing it. Hopefully that will help me to not self-injure after 2011 is up. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has been a strong support to me. And thanks to anyone who believes in me that I can do this.

-Christie

I have talked this over with my boyfriend, and he told me they would probably want to do it in 2 parts, the black outline, then the orange filling a different day. So, I decided that at the 6 month mark I will get the black outline, and at the 1 year mark, I will get the orange filled in as well as the word "survivor" next to it.

Sounds like a great plan!
I decided something similar, to stop SI on 1-1-2011. I've stopped over 3 months so far Giving yourself goals like the tattoo is great, I found that I can't stop SI just for myself, I have to have other motives.
Anyway, good luck and PM me anytime if you just want to talk to someone who's trying to stop too.

well i got the 1st part of the tattoo today! i got the nautical star, black and orange. in another 6 months i will get the word "survivor" written next to it, along with 3 small bird silhouettes flying away from it, symbolizing my freedom from si that it does not have such a tight control over me as it had in the past.

It is still very sore (hurt like heck to get it over my scars!) and really swollen but here it is!

It hasn't been a full 2 weeks yet but I think it's pretty much healed.
