One question... does your method of SI come from something in your past?? Or is it just a choice thing?

I've kinda always used the same methods... not a clue where they're from though. Why do you ask?

My si-ing comes from @ first being in pain, then I could not sleep so I cut then slept very well, then to an addiction, then making patterns on my body.
I have had cover ups done over si-ing done with more scaring (the scaring done by pro's- like tattoos, scarification its called).
I have not cut for months now though, and I intend to keep it that way.

I don't want to cut so deeply that I need medical attention, so choose bearing that in mind. I too am interested in why you ask?

The question comes from the possibility that some trauma or abuse, or some other life event, could influence the self harm method. I know most people cut, but for the others that do other things, I wonder if it is caused by something in the person's history.
Thanks for this!

I know for me it was after the trauma happened, the person who did the trauma gave me a knife and told me to do it.

Woh, Babycds. So sorry to hear that.
I had an accident first of al, before things kinda fell apart; I banged my head hard when I was 35, then it started.
Alot of pain and regret inside I guess.

To be told to do it, is something that does hurt me inside for you
Something I could not imagine.

Take Care.

My oldest form of SI - hitting and such - comes from my past. The newer Si - cutting - started when I was about 20... and I've no idea where it came from.

SI..c ould be chemical thing...when we experience enjoyment or stress our bodies releases a set of chemicals, hormones or neurotrasmitters to meet the requiremnt of that stress and to combat the effects of that stress on the body......one sensation you feel during this adrenalin pumping episode is excitement and followed by numbness and relaxation... tell me if you think u can relate to this........i guess its a sort of addiction if u wish can be substituted by other sources of adrenalin.....only that it should not be self destructive.
my best wishes to all who wish to understand it and combat it..

For me I have SI most of my life since I was very little but I never understood it and never even knew that it was wrong. I used to just poke myself or scratch nothing super significant. After my parents seperation I began to SI through cutting. So I do not know how it truly began but after my parents it became more significant and important in my life.
