I'm a believer in being open with people I care about with my SI. I got the idea from the psychologist I was seeing back in school, said it was a good way of keeping yourself accountable. Now I don't do it with everyone just those I am really close with that know about my SI. And I loathe doing it I'd rather just let them stay in ignorant bliss than make them sad by confessing a slip. But I suppose that they'd rather be honest with them than lie about it.

So I was wondering if ya'll do the same thing and if you do do you feel conflicted about it as well?

Hey Super,

This bout of cutting I tried to keep from family. I do live 3 hours away from them but I felt like I was lying. I kept my mouth shut for several weeks about everything and then mentioned my depression. A few weeks after that the cutting came out for some reason. I know it hurts my family, especially my mom.

I have alot of guilt because she has dealt with it in the past when I was younger she should not have to be worried and stressed at the age of 75.

I absolutely hate doing it because I know how much it upsets them especially when I slip after a long time without SI. But they tell me they'd rather know.

My parents, amongst others, know about my SI - or are at least aware I have done it before - but they don't want to know about it, and never check up on me about it. That way they can choose to believe I'm doing better, see... So, nobody to be accountable to... well, except maybe my T.
