I self harm, but not all the time and only in response to my internal issues. Am I the only person that doesn't get triggered at ALL to external influences like reading about self harming? It doesn't make sense in MY head as to why it would even be triggering. hmm..

I know everyone is different. Anyone care to explain it to me?

I don't think it is just reading about self harming that triggers some people but the experience behind it, about the "internal issues" that caused that person's urge; it reminds us of our own?

I personally react to visuals, like seeing an image of someone cutting or watching someone playing with a knife. It's not an emotional trigger at that point, it's a physical craving for pain.
Perna is right also. For me, when I am reminded in any detail of the reasons that I injury myself it can bring my mind to those dark places and trigger an emotional response that results in SI..
It's my reaction to the reminder that triggers, not the reminder itself.
