This may seem rather trivial. I have a doctor's appointment on Saturday, just a routine check-up to fill out this medical form. I have scars on my waist. I'm pretty sure my mom is going to be there in the examination room, which isn't any good. In case the doctor needs to go anywhere near my waist... what to do?!

Teenagers can have privacy during checkups without their parents in the room. Can you ask for that?
But your parents need to know anyway. Will you talk to the doc about your SI? Getting a therapist would be a good idea.

I agree with Sannah, privacy from your parents, and a honest conversation with your doctor, and personally I think getting a therapist is a GREAT idea.
And when it comes to SI there are no "trivial issues"

I don't want to come off as stubborn, but I honestly don't need a therapist and even if I did, I probably wouldn't be able to get one. Long story. Anyways, I don't need one because I USED to SI, I don't anymore and I haven't for a while. I don't intend on telling anyone about it either because now I know better and I'm in a perfectly happy place in life. So these aren't fresh cuts that I'm worried about here, these are big old ugly scars. And my mom sort of has to be there because as far as she's concerned, there's nothing for me to hide from anyone and she needs to talk to the doctor about this form thing that I need for this trip. Would concealer get on latex gloves?
And yes, I completely agree. Anything to do with SI is not "trivial", it's just this seems like it to me because I stopped SI a long time ago but I still have to deal with things like scars, on my waist no less. Somewhere that I thought was safe and hidden. |

Very good that this is a thing from the past. Good work! The physical exams are done with a gown on. The doctor might not even look at your waist. The abdominal exams are done over the gown.
