I promised my "T" that I wouldn't cut or hit myself... so after nearly 2 weeks without SI, I burned myself... I was so mad at myself before I did it, and it's so weird but I feel absolutely fine now... and I barely burned myself... has anyone else tried both? why does burning work so much better than cutting ever did?

I tried burning once when my mom threw out all my razor blades. It didn't really do it for me as well as cutting did. To each his own?

And don't feel bad, its an addiction. There are bound to be a few times where you slip but its all good. You should tell your T though, so the guilt doesn't get to you and whatnot. They'll work through it with you, even though you slipped.

I used to burn myself with cigarettes back in the day. I had started cutting and I didn't do anything for me. I think for me it was mostly my head that liked the idea, because at the time I hated myself and I felt like burning was a more appropriate punishment, so I'd smoke my cigs down to the butt and then proceed. however, and I in no way promote this type of behavior I know scars from cutting don't look that good, but enough burns and it looks just terrible like melted plastic. but to answer your question it was the feeling of appropriate punishment mixed with the calming effect of smoking for me. Don't feel bad for slipping it happens I did it quite a few time before I stopped. Hang in there.

Burning is more intense and IMO it releases more endorphins in a quicker and shorter period than cutting.

Yeah......I've been brought to my knees in a kind of orgasmic bliss of pain. Cutting can't do that.

Ok this might get longish!lol I have always been a cutter, but when I was hospitalized back in December and that was the first time in my life at the age of 45. I was cutting everyday when I was in, I actually used the plastic knives from meals and a few other things you can get your hands on.

For some reason I tried burning myself with my lighter when I was outside having a smoke. I think I only did it four times, burning where I had cut, so now I have kaloid? The scars are raised right at the top of my hand by the wrist.

The first time I did it, it didn't really hurt of course it could have been because it was so damn cold outside. By the forth time it did and to be honest it didn't really do anything for me either.

I prefer cutting. My two cents.

Thanks for this!

I barely feel it when I burn. I do feel like it punishes me more than cutting. So that is a good thing.

This reply might be triggering?

I did like the feeling of when I burned myself. I actually like the scar that I have from it tho.

But I have been able to keep myself from burning lately.... ? IDK. I don't feel so weird now knowing there are others who do/did that too. It is definitely an addiction, like Line said. Hugs to everyone. I about teared up a little knowing there are people who burn too. (Silly I know)

I would suggest not telling people alternative methods with burning, as it may actually be a worse kind of burning than they were originally doing xD

I've only recently picked up burning. Just started up my affair with SI after about 3 years of doing it only very rarely... It actually gave me this weird euphoric feeling that I've never experienced before. It's odd. Started giggling, smiling, felt lightheaded. Cutting never did that. I don't like the scar that much though. *shrug*

I've always been a burner and not a cutter, so I can't really compare the two. That was just never my thing.

It's interesting that so many people mention the intensity of the pain and that punishment is a big part of it for them, because those are both big factors for me, too.
