Hi!
I hope I don't offend anyone... I've seen a number of posters lamenting that people judge them (or might judge them) by their SI scars. I wonder if tattoos might be a useful way to conceal those scars?

This is a good question? And often thought of this myself.
I'm not sure they cover well over scars tho! But would love the hear if someone has tried so |

This is a writing- no pictures. But If you click on the link that is left on the page link above, the "scar covering with tattoo" it has a lovely little story of women who don't get reconstruction on their breasts after cancer, but the picture may be disturbing to some (not sure so just warning) Quote:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2065645_cover-scar-tattoo.html I have heard 2 years for scars to fully heal, but this ehow says 1 year- and the pigment of the scar also I thought I read some where, determined if weather or not a scar could be tat over. I do agree with asking your doc about this before doing, also Some Tat artists are really good with knowing some skin stuff too. http://www.querycat.com/question/24c...21b3256284bc4d Or here we go- this may be helpful too I think tats are to each their own ![]()

I want sleeves, and on one arm it would have the added benefit of taking away the glaring nature of the scars. I know my skin holds ink differently, so I will have to re-think the sleeve that will be going on my right arm... The image I drew out has too much "open spaces" of color blocks that will be weird with the scars... sad, because I really liked the idea I drew up...

I got a tattoo of a nautical star on my inner forearm and the scars do hold the ink, but they won't if the scar is really raised. Some scars were only 6 months old, and it was fine. I don't know if its the tattoo artists fault or what but the lines are really screwed up. I think it was the artist who rushed it, and it needs a touch up very badly. Make sure if you get a tattoo, the artist truly does have a lot of time to do it, and isn't "fitting you in" like mine was.

I've got a tattoo over my scars and they are still visible, I guess it depends what kind of image you decide to get-maybe something that can incorporate the image and lines? Also it's imperative to get a good tattoo artist that can work with you...
Good luck ![]()

And if you get a tattoo make sure you REALLY look over the stencil they put on you before they start work, if you don't like ANYTHING about it don't hesitate to have them redo it. Don't worry about offending them, this is a couple hour job for them, it's a lifetime for you.
I got a tattoo not to cover up any of my scars but as a counter point to them. Something fun and with positive meaning for me to show there is another side to me, not just the darkness that the scars show.

I have a friend who got sleeves, and they look great on her (and go well with her persona). I've been considering getting smallish tattoos over the really bad scars but I've also heard that if the scars are raised, the ink won't stay
![]() Maybe you can consult a tattoo artist? Good luck! |

I have thought about getting tattoos to cover my worst scars. (I already have other tattoos). My scars are on my wrists, though, and I'd have to cover up for work. I think that would wear on me.

I wasn't thinking a tattoo could completely obliterate the scars.
But a casual glance would see the tattoos and no more. And whatever showed through might be dismissed as a rash or a side effect of the tattoo.
