Does anyone here ever substitute cutting for crying. I'm not a crier, haven't cried in years, but I know when I'm really sad, I cut instead. Anyone else do this?

when i used to cut a lot i'd do this. i seldom ever cried. when i did cry, i was so embarrassed, so ashamed of myself. so i'd fight the urge to cry and let my tears go in blood. but now i just cry, and feel pitiful. i dont cut so much anymore. but you're not alone, (((( nothing_inside )))) if okay..

Nope. I have only cut myself on three, maybe four occasions, and it was only when I was very very angry at myself. I have obsessive thought patterns, and they got to a point where I just felt like cr*p for thinking that way.

I stopped because I realized that cutting doesn't help anything. I find it only makes everything worse, plus you can lose the trust of people who care about you.

I have absolutely no objection to crying. It's much healthier than cutting or any other form of SI. It doesnt leave scars, plus it does make you feel better after. Well, at least for me it does.

Cutting can be a way of disconnecting from emotions, while crying is an overflow of emotions. I don't remember cutting and crying at the same time. I have cut in order to stuff back the emotions and get them under control so that I could function (like when I cut after my husband had yelled at me and my daughter, shoved me, and thrown the couch across the room, and I didn't have time to deal with the feelings because I had to go to work and be functional. I cut instead.) When I was really severely depressed, I didn't cut. Those were the times when I let emotions overwhelm me. I've been sad sometimes recently, and have cried a few times, and have not cut.

Maybe you are onto something there. It doesn't seem that cutting and crying often go together.

I do that! Some times the little trickles of blood remind me of my tears.

I think I do this. I have been told so many times not to cry, but all the hurt has to come out some way. It's not a healthy way though. I would much rather be able to cry.
