I have never really cut myself but over the years I have noticed that I do...pick at old scabs on my skin to the point where I constantly re open them and some times I think I find enjoyable.

at first I thought this was just a bad habit what is self cutting other then a bad habit also.

I have also scratched my chest in a hot shower to the point of making myself bleed.

I am not entirely proud of these things but yes I do, do them.

Cutting is more than just a bad habit. It's a coping mechanism. People don't just cut themselves like they pick at scabs. There is an emotionally charged reason behind cutting yourself. Lots of people just compulsively pick scabs.

If you are picking scabs and scratching yourself to help cope with some sort of emotion, then it is SI. If you are doing it compulsively, then it is something entirely different and more along the lines of OCD.
Thanks for this!
