im currently under the effect of sedatives. im very stressed right now, just had a fight with my siblings and an feeling worthless. it was partly my own fault but i didnt deserve the reaction i received. so after an hour of weeping in my room i went into the bathroom and inserted syringe into a vein in my arm and bled for sometime...not a lot, just about 10 ml. once i was done with it,it suddenly struck me that this would not be a normal strategy to cope with stress. so, i just want to make sure that its not a mental illness ,right? self inflicted bleeding using a syringe is not equivalent to cutting, is it?

In my experience, yes, this is self injury. You said you were using this as a coping mechanism after a stressful day. Self injury is typically conflated with cutting. Which isn't always true. I was one to bruise myself when I first started hurting myself. And I refused to believe that it was self harm because it was bruising. Not cutting. Self harm comes in a variety of different shapes and forms. It is a spectrum. And it can be a complicated one.

What would being "mentally ill" mean to you? And, yes, this is self harm and serves the same purpose as cutting. (just curious, why was there a syringe around to use?)
Remember, if you can identify a problem, it makes it possible to address the problem. __________________ "...don't say Home / the bones of that word mend slowly...' marie harris |

This could also apply to a "physical" illness. (you could have a stroke, chronic lung disease, brittle diabetes, a broken leg (to throw in something mechanical))
What about this "mental illness" is so frightening for you? __________________ "...don't say Home / the bones of that word mend slowly...' marie harris |
