My friend is going through a hard time and she asked what I do when I'm depressed (she knows I'm diagnosed). I told her she probably didn't want to use my coping mechanism and she didn't understand why. So I just beat around the bush a bit until the topic changed. It's so hard bringing up SI even with people who already know you do it.

It can be difficult for someone to understand SI. When you're ready, you can confide in someone - it may lighten the load and help your recovery. It's a symptom of an inner struggle. You'll get there
