By these doctors' definition. . . http://www.webmd.com/content/article/123/115055 they include pinching.

Pat - I used to, then it went and got worse.
![]() Sometimes its just to "center" ourselves so we pay more attention, like the "pinching ourselves to wake up from a dream" ... that sort of thing. Do you know when you do it specifically? When you're anxious or stressed or sad or ? Hugs ((((((((((Pat)))))))))) ![]()

Do you have a tendency to bottle your anxiety and not let it out? Not let yourself "feel" emotionally??
That could lead to self-injuring. If it's just temporary and to alieviate some anxiety than it's acceptable because it doesn't do injury, and allows you to alieviate your feelings temporarily. My two cents anyways - Take care of yourself ((((((((((((((((Pat))))))))))))))))))))) ![]()

Find someone. Even if you're on here talking to people or making lots of posts (which nobody would mind since you're wonderfully supportive of many) - let out the stuff that bothers you, even just a little. You do not want to do lasting damage, trust me on this. ![]() Take care of yourself ![]()

It's similar to the SI behavior I still do sometimes, biting. It provides the same pain that pinching does for the same reasons you described but I know I won't break skin by doing it (just bruise it) and breaking skin is one of my few lines that seperates cutting from other SI for me... and I want to keep my record for not cutting.
I wouldn't say pnching is a positive coping mechanism, but it is a coping mechanism none the less, and I don't know how much it hurts you or others to feel right about calling it a negative coping mechanism. Hope other than that you are doing well.
