It's like any addiction, it takes time. You just have to take it one day at a time and try to do your best for that one day. You'll get there. But it's hard to ever completely lose the urge once you are ingrained to cutting. I quit 10 years ago but there are times when I'm still tempted. I just have to work through the feelings.

I started cutting when I was in middle school. It took about 4 years for me to stop completely. I haven't cut since high school and I'm currently 23 now. Relapses happen but the key is that they get further and further apart to the point you don't even realize that you haven't cut in x amount of time. It is possible to quit for good.
Thanks for this!

It's really about management rather than complete cessation. I will probably always view myself as a self injurer. I've been cutting for over 10 years. I go through ups and downs. Right now I haven't cut in 84 days. The urges are what need to be managed. It's certainly a day to day process.

I haven't cut in over 3 years, but I'm not going to say that I have successfully quit, even if I live to be a hundred and never cut again it will the struggle will be with me (sometimes worse, sometimes better) until the day I die

I don't know if I have truly quit, but I haven't si in exactly a year and 11 days. I started when I was 12, I am now 21. I am trying my best to not relapse, but its hard to ignore the urges.

I think what's most important is finding a reason to quit, and a reason to keep from relapsing. It can be very hard and I don't think I'll ever be truly free of my addiction, but I am a recovering self-injurer and that makes me so proud.
