I have scars a year old and they are still very visible. I cut using a jagged edged razor blade and I scrapped and cut so they are very wide and raised and I like to tan so they are darker than my skin. They are also spotted or dotted I don't know how to explain it well. Just wondering how long do scars take to fade? Does it depend completely on how deep they were? They were never deep to need stitches but were very infected for about a week or so and very swollen.

I would try putting some vitamin e on them or aloe both help with scars. I have scars from 25 years ago. They are not as noticeable but I can still see them. I wish you well!

Unfortunately it depends on the scar, and the person really. Some of mine have faded and I don't see them at all, others I think will always be there. Thats the majority. It sucks because my arms are near enough covered now. I have heard very good things about vitamin e oil, so I'd give that a shot if I were you. I bought some myself...just too damn lazy to use it!

I have scars from my 20s and I'm nearly 64. A scar is a scar and doesn't fade away, always looks like a scar, that's what "scar" means? The worse the cut/trauma, the worse the scar.

Infections tend to make scars worse, I've learned. I have used both vitamin e + bio oil and both have helped them blend into the rest of my skin easier.

My doctor told me that putting vitamin e and always wearing sunscreen over them is the best way to prevent them from getting darker.
I have a cut from 9 years ago that only finally just faded from a bright red color to a now pale-white. But I have a large scar from last year that faded after a couple of months. Try slathering on sunscreen on that bit of skin, and rubbing the vitamin oil on in the mornings and at night. |

As others said, it depends on how deep the cut was, and the type of skin you have......also I find, it varies.......depending on where you cut.......the cuts on my arms seem more raised than the cuts on my legs, for example. Maybe because the skin is more tender?
I have tried Bio-oil and it works......but you have to use it consistently. |

My scars have faded a bit but I have cut quite badly and have gotten stitches multiple times.. so they're very noticeable on my arms.

The weird thing about my scars are that the ones that were deep enough to need stiches and staples so up less than the ones that didnt need stitches. Have no idea if it was just because the doctor was really good or what, but I know I will always have some what of a scar there.
