I think the main reason (for me anyway) that I haven't stopped is because it makes me feel good. I'm not bothering anybody else..?? I don't know. I guess my main question is: why does it feel so good? I mean, I am physically harming myself (which shouldn't feel good right?) but it does.

Our bodies release endorphins when we experience pain, which can feel like a happiness state.
Also, if we are used to being hurt, punished, or put down, then this can feel safe and familiar, so when we SI we actually can feel safe and comforted, even though we are not.
Go easy katelyn. Look after you. Xxx

Yeah, exactly what Red said.

It's a transferrance of mental pain. It's only so temporary though.

Endorphins. Also as the wound begins to heal, there's a warming sensation which can be quite comforting and relaxing.

There are other forms of endorphin release that last longer and don't damage the body. But self harm is still very habit forming so once people latch onto it, it's difficult to substitute.
