Last session T said something like "and you want to avoid the scarring, that's why you shouldn't do it" in regards to self harm. I don't care about the scarring, I'm already ugly and I SI on my leg, not on my arms so "not wearing short-sleeved T-shirts without getting looks/questions" also isn't a reason.
So WHY exactly is SI wrong? What makes it unhealthy? I really can't think of a reason.

I think that, although it helps me feel MUCH better, sometimes for quite some time, it also encourages me to hate myself even more which makes the distress worse in the long term and reinforces my unhelpful attitudes.
Your physical scars may not matter but do you want to hurt your mind even more than its been hurt already?
This may be unconvincing, but it's a thought. Doesn't stop the urges. Kind thoughts from me. ❤️

Good question. Sometimes people and animals scratch and bite themselves until they bleed in response to severe itching. They can't help it, the irritation is that severe. I'm not sure where I'm going with this line of thought. I guess that unless you've actually experienced the urge, then it doesn't make sense. Unfortunately, once you do succumb to the urge, then it does make sense, a bit like continuing to scratch a place that is already sore.

It makes sense to self-harm if you don't see any value in your body in of itself, but there's more to it. Think about the people who love and care about you, they value you, they see your worth and thus you would never deserve pain. Think of someone you love, would you cut them? Often I think it comes down to self-esteem.

Breadfish, I think this sometimes too. Like, what is actually wrong with it? I'm not hurting anyone else.
But, I guess the main reason that it's not okay is because we're choosing to do something to someone which can only damage them. And that person is ourselves. But we are still a person who deserves respect and care.
But yeah, I can think the logic but I don't feel it.

The biggest reason I refrain ever is outside consequences. If I'm ever stopping for myself it's because it's not working...

I understand when you reach the frame of mind where the scarring isn't a deterrant

I've been there too ....
