what would a gyno do if she found cuts on a 20 yr old woman during a pelvic exam?

She would probably asked how they happened? She would probably ask if you were receiving any professional help. I know my Dr. was very caring when she saw fresh cuts during a physical, but as soon as I said I had a 't and a pdoc she backed right off & continued as normal.

depending on how fresh they were, you could say you've sorted it out.

she might not comment on them. if she did you could say you're looking for a T but haven't quite found one yet. she might even suggest somebody for you!

I'd say the worst case scenario would be for her to freak out and say some really insensitive things. If you're worried about being put IP involuntarily - don't be, it takes a lot more than SI for that. At worst she might refuse to treat you again, in which case you'd just have to see a new Dr.

Worse case I would think is that gynos would express their concern strongly. But they're not PDocs and don't want to be so they wouldn't overstep that boundary. They may suggest seeing one, even give a name if they have one.

But don't compound any problem by not going to the gyno because you're afraid of other problems/complications. If something gets infected or goes wrong down there it can kill you quick.

i would say the worst-case scenario is being confronted by disgust, horror and disbelief, and then being refused to be treated. but for the reaction to be so extreme then i imagine the gyno wouldn't really be very suited to working in the medical profession.

like somebody else says, if you were thrown off her books - just look elsewhere. perhaps you could hint/ tell her you have SI cuts/ scars - just so it isn't completely unexpected.

I'm new here, but i have just been through everything involved in having a baby with scars and some fresh SI cuts on my thighs and things like picking and scratching bites or scabs until they are open almost all the time... and I just warned my OB and explained that I was in a helpful program... Always better to be forthcoming and not just hope for the best... Them discovering it themselves and not knowing how to properly react would tend to be more stressful for you and the doctor... They are professionals, and most of them qualified to treat and diagnose many psych related issues for postpartum moms (which is what I am currently diagnosed and being treated for now)

He/She should be understanding, and you should feel comfortable letting him or her know... this kind of doctor/patient relationship is very personal, and they are used to that... don't be afraid.
