after over 2 years of self harming, my mom accidentally saw my scars, she kept telling me how gross it was and asking whats wrong with me. she seemed so disgusted, when i didnt answer she just stormed off angrily. she must hate me now, thats the reason i never showed her...

I'm so sorry you had this experience. The one person in the world you should be able to count on for compassion & support is your mother. Perhaps once she has had time to consider how she reacted she will manage to come up with a different more thoughtful approach. Please take care of yourself...

It is possible that she was so scared that she lashed out. Fear can make people act harshly. It is hard to learn that a person that you love hurts themselves and she may be blaming herself.

Take care.

I'm sorry your Mom didn't respond in a more helpful way to you. It can be hard on folks when they find out their child hurts themselves. My parents didn't take it too well either. Now they just ignore it. Do you have a friend or a T to confide in? Sometimes it can be helpful to talk to someone who will understand and not judge. If not keep talking here.
