Not sure where to post this. Just wondering if there are others with this? It does include self-harm. I thought some of you may be able to relate?
Just curious how you have dealt with FD. I have been dealing with this for almost 30 years. I went to extreme measures to keep from admitting to the things I did. I almost feel as if I would have done anything imaginable to keep from being found out. It was embarrassing and I felt guilty. If only I had known it was a real mental illness and there was a reason for doing what I did. Now that I'm "coming out" I'm running into comments like, "you had 20 years to come clean." "You kept doing it, even though you felt guilty and knew it was wrong." I'm also hearing things like people comparing it to a drug addict that steals so they can support their habit. Is there a difference? I think so.. My only response is that a drug addict usually knows why they're doing it. |

But the drug addict is in denial about the reasons about having to use drugs, most times.
Where I am, the health board has titled itself as The Department for Mental Health and Addictions. |

Agree. They know they have an addiction. I didn't understand why. Had I known it was a mental health issue, I would have known where to get help.

So many of us, could say that. I'm telling you, my life would've been different had I had, not only care, but the proper care much earlier. And tbh, I'm still figuring things out in my fifties. We need to find self-compassion and forgiveness.I hope those around you will come to the same conclusion and after the initial shock wears off, offer you kindness, understanding and support.

Yes... for me it's embarrassing and scary. Coupling factitous disorder with body integrity identity disorder and gender dysphoria is a lot.

Are you getting good help now? Do you have a good psychologist?

Wanted to respond to this. I had completely forgotten. I'm currently undergoing emdr and delving into it more. On ething I'm struggling with is the attention. I'm not someone that usually likes the attention. When I really donhave an injury, I struggle sharing. I will avoid the hospital at all costs. But when I'm embellishing or faking, it's easy. I'm thinking I'm looking for an identity of some sort.
