Context: I'm a 16 year old girl, and I've been cutting myself since I was 13. When I was 13, I moved from France to the U.S, which is what started my cutting. My self harm was really really bad in middle school, but throughout my first year of high school, the scars faded and things seemed to get better. In my second year of high school (sophomore) I relapsed and began cutting myself almost every day. I still do it, but far less than I did last year (I am a junior now), and things seem overall better. The only issue is that now the scars are extremely visible, and it's almost summer. It was 86 degrees F today, and I wore a long sleeve shirt and jeans. My family is extremely suspicious, and I want to tell them about my SH before they find out on their own but I am literally scared ****less. My parents are extremely strict, and I don't know how they'll react. I am afraid they will freak out and institutionalize me or something. What should I do?

My heart goes out to you.... you must be feeling scared and alone. We are here, so keep posting...

As for telling your parents,I would approach your school's counsellor or psychologist and ask them for help and support.

Can you do that?
